Build the story around evidence

A data science resume becomes stronger when evaluation and deployment decisions are visible. Model names alone do not show whether an approach solved the right problem.

Explain the target, baseline, split strategy, evaluation metric, and error analysis. State whether your work was exploratory, deployed, or monitored in use.

A useful resume structure

Show practical judgment with a concise discussion of tradeoffs: calibration, interpretability, latency, or the cost of false positives.

Start with your name and contact details, then a short targeted summary. Follow with the most relevant experience or projects, skills you can demonstrate, and education. Use standard headings and consistent dates so readers can navigate quickly.

Write a stronger achievement bullet

The following is a fill-in structure, not a claim to copy as your own. Replace every bracket only with a detail that is true. If you cannot verify a number, describe the scope or outcome in plain language.

Compared [model] against [baseline] on [held-out data], evaluating [metric] and reviewing errors across [relevant segments].

Skills to consider when supported

Statistics, experiment design, model evaluation, Python. Select only the skills you actually possess and that matter for the role. Put important skills in the context of your experience as well as in a short skills section.

Common mistakes to avoid

Avoid reporting training performance as validation performance. Do not omit data leakage risks or describe offline gains as business outcomes.

Before sending, copy the exported document into a plain-text editor. Check whether headings, dates, and bullets remain in a sensible order. Follow the employer’s requested file format.
